“To let go doesn’t mean we stop caring,
It means I can’t do it for someone else.”

We talk a lot about letting go or surrendering our kids. But, the reality is that it is not easy, to say the least, for us as moms. We have loved, cared for, and been focused on our children for a long time and it has taken us awhile to realize that we are no longer effective at protecting them from themselves. We have tried everything to fix them, and we are beaten up and exhausted because the reality is that there is nothing we can do to help them or change what they are doing or not doing.

Our situations are different, but the pain is the same and so is the remedy. Whether our kids are in our daily lives causing chaos and pain, or they have turned their backs on us and estranged themselves from our family, our hearts are broken, and we are consumed with our own pain.

The first step to “Letting Go” is to realize and acknowledge that we are powerless to fix the situation with our child. All we can do is try to get to a better place ourselves and the only way we can do that is to turn to Jesus for comfort, strength, peace, and joy.

Remember, Letting Go doesn’t mean you don’t care about your child, it just means that you are beginning to take steps toward your own healing.
