“Getting off the Roller Coaster of Emotions”…

As Hurting Moms, we experience many painful and debilitating emotions. We can’t seem to move past them and even during the times we are feeling pretty good, in the back of our minds is the fear that the next “drop” is right around the corner.

Although we cannot control the actions of our children, we can control our reactions to them. Scripture shows us that our reactions to our child’s behavior can cause us to feel separated from God and our emotions contribute to how we are reacting. We are instructed and time again to put our trust in Him and to turn away from our damaging emotional responses.

That may sound impossible, but God’s word assures us that, if we allow Him too, He will come close to bear our burdens and share our pain. His presence will be reassuring and strengthening. Picture Him holding out His hand to help you off the roller coaster as He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NIV)

Throughout the month of September, we will be examining some of the specific emotions we experience, and we will look at what God says about them and how we can move beyond them.
