“DISAPPOINTMENT”…

Mixed in with all the other emotions we experience when we are hurting over our children is a profound sense of disappointment. This isn’t how we imagined it would be when our children came into our lives. This isn’t what we signed up for when we decided to become a mom. We had no idea that motherhood would involve so much pain. Our dreams have been crushed.

Disappointment produces negative feelings and attitudes and for some it can even lead to depression. Our hope, peace, and joy have been wrapped up in what we want for our children and when our dreams for them are not realized our disappointment digs deeply into our sense of well-being.

The Bible tells us that if our hope is in the Lord we will not be disappointed. That means we must completely shift our focus from our kids toward God. He is consistent, He is good, He is kind and He loves us with the same intensity that we have for our children. We need to trust Him with them so that we can begin to live again.

In Isaiah 49:23 (NIV) God tells us, “You will know that I am the Lord, those who hope in me will not be disappointed.” That’s great news! It means that He is faithful, and He will not let us down.

Another powerful word from scripture about disappointment is found in Romans 5:5 (NIV) where it says, “And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.”

Hold on to these Bible verses when disappointment threatens to consume you. Allow these words to sink in as you find comfort in them.
