“HURT”…
The hurt we experience when our children are making destructive choices, or have walked way from our family, is an actual physical pain. Even though initially we think of this kind of pain as emotional pain, there is a definite agonizing and physical ache in our bodies which only another Hurting Mom can understand. We have been hit where we are most vulnerable, and the pain of a broken heart is very real. It cannot be easily dismissed, pushed to the side, or forgotten.
Although the hurt that we are experiencing can be overwhelming, it is important to remember that we have a God who is in the business of healing. He loves us so much that He hurts with us and He can and will heal our broken hearts. In Psalm 37:8 the Bible tells us, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”.
There is comfort in knowing we are not alone. God cares about every aspect of our lives and the lives of our kids. We also have each other and just talking about our hurt with other Hurting Moms somehow takes the power out of our pain. It is important to know that we are not on the roller coaster of emotions all by ourselves. There are others who are with us and together we can overcome our negative and debilitating emotions. We can encourage one another by reminding each other of the words found in Psalm 119:50, “My comfort in my suffering is this. Your promise preserves my life.”
Focusing on the promises of God is the answer to our pain. We may not be able to change or fix our children, but we can turn to God and rest in the knowledge that we are not alone.
