“To let go is not to nag, scold, or argue,
But to search out my own shortcomings and to correct them”

Nagging, scolding, and arguing do not motivate our children to communicate with us or to see things the way we see them. We are not going to change or fix them by constantly telling them what they are doing wrong or how much they are disappointing us. If anything, it will drive them further away from us causing an even greater gap in our relationship with them.

Turning our focus and our energy away from trying to fix or control our child, toward seeking God’s will for us is one of the ways that we can begin to let go in a way that is healthy and life-giving. Spending quiet time alone with the One who loves us and created us with a purpose in mind will help us to discover the peace and joy that come only from Him.

By meditating on God’s word, we can begin to see the places in our own lives that need to be changed and we recognize that with His help we can move toward being the women He created us to be. We cannot experience the good things in life if all our attention and efforts are being poured into fixing or changing that which is out of our control – our children. God will be the one to change and motivate them, if we will just get out of the way. He is their Savior . . . we are not!
